Learning and Reading under One Roof

Together with the Society Switzerland Bhutan, the Association of Friends of Bhutan Austria is supporting the construction of a classroom and a library at the Gayshing Gaon Primary School in Phuntshopelri Gewog in Samtse. This will also enable children with special needs or disabilities to have equal access to school education.

Improvement of the learning environment

The 107 pupils at the Gayshing Gaon Primary School in Samtse are enthusiastic learners. However, the sun and heavy monsoon rains make learning difficult under the inadequate, leaking tin roof of their school. On sunny days, it gets unbearably hot, but also the pounding rain makes teaching almost impossible. The school library books and learning materials are also constantly at risk from water seeping in from all sides.
With the growing number of students, the construction of an additional classroom and a suitable room for the school library became urgently necessary. 30% of the costs will be covered by donations and local labour. Support was requested for the remaining costs of € 3,360.

Aim of the project:

To provide a well-built and well-insulated classroom for the children.

To construct facilities that are designed for children with additional needs and/or disabilities, so that they have equal access to education.

To improve the learning environment and create a healthier environment for students to promote academic achievement
